RED ROCK CANYON
Tour Duration: Approximately 3 hours
Red Rock Canyon is located 15 miles from the Las Vegas Strip and is a must-see while visiting. The area presents the most awe-inspiring views while showcasing desert beauty, towering red sandstone peaks and abundant wildlife.
Formed millions of years ago, the red peaks are actually fossilized sand dunes, created after collisions of the earth’s crust. The red sandstone that makes Red Rock so unique is part of the same geologic formation, the Navajo Formation, which is found in the Valley of Fire, Zion National Park and throughout many parts of the southwestern United States and southern Nevada.
The tour begins at the Visitors Center so guests can view exhibits about the area and a tortoise habitat before departing for the 13-mile loop drive. The loop drive is the ideal way to see the geological history, brilliance and grandeur of the canyon. The drive has many stops along the way for guests to take photos and ask questions and a stop will also be made to see both petroglyphs and pictographs on the peak walls. Keep the cameras ready because many animals call Red Rock Canyon home including bighorn sheep, wild horses, burros and even mountain lions.

HOOVER DAM DISCOVERY TOUR
Tour Duration: Approximately 4 hours
It’s the Wonder of the Modern World weighing over 6,600,000 tons. It’s the structure that contains over three million cubic yards of concrete, enough to pave a road between San Francisco and New York. It’s the marvel that began in 1931 and was completed in 1936, two years ahead of schedule. Built during the Great Depression, the Hoover Dam provided jobs for 21,000 men and answered a great need. Citizens wanted to irrigate low desert areas without the risk of flooding and the US government determined the Colorado River was the solution to the battle over water rights. Named after Herbert Hoover – playing a vital role in the construction, first as the US Secretary of Commerce and then as the President of the United States of America – the concrete arch-gravity dam is in the Black Canyon on the Colorado River, bordering Arizona and Nevada. A knowledgeable guide will prepare guests with a history-filled dialogue as they travel from the Las Vegas Strip, 30 miles east to Boulder City, the location of the Hoover Dam. Upon arrival to the Dam, guests will begin the self-guided tour making several stops including a brief video introduction followed by a trip down 530-feet through the rock wall of the Black Canyon to view eight of the 17 generators. A stroll on the observation deck is essential, as it offers up the perfect panoramic views of the Hoover Dam, Colorado River and Lake Mead. Guests can also see the Mike O’Callaghan/Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge that was built to alleviate the traffic caused by 15,000 people passing through each day. Additional stops on the tour include the Winged Figures of the Republic, the spillways (large enough to float a WWII battleship), and the intake towers. Participants will have approximately two-hours at the Hoover Dam to leisurely tour and learn about this masterful site.

Post-Convention Tour
TO BE HELD IN ZION, BRYCE CANYON AND LAKE POWELL Sept. 18-23
Our post-Las Vegas tour this year will focus on canyons, taking a down-to-earth view of the grandest of all from the bottom up.
We’ll start in Zion National Park, just a few hours coach ride from swinging Las Vegas. We’ll shed our city clothes for the comforts of park-touring jeans and boots and leave the city lights behind. Our accommodations at Zion Mountain Ranch are in individual cabins where we’ll quickly immerse ourselves in the quiet splendor of these desert mountains.
We’ll have two days to tour the park before moving on to Bryce Canyon and Lake Powell. Once at the Lake Powell resort, we’ll get our feet wet on a boat tour. Day two will find us back on the water for an afternoon float trip down the Colorado River in Glen Canyon.
Optional air flights over the area are available, we’ll enjoy some local food and shopping and return home via Las Vegas on Sunday or Monday depending on your available flight schedule. See the itinerary for specifics. We are holding a limited number of rooms at the ranch and the resort, so get your reservation coupon in quickly to join us for this canyon tour of southwest Utah.
