This panel, moderated by a NECA contractor and composed of industry experts, will discuss the functions, market, work and opportunities in smart cities, smart grids and smart buildings work. Smart Cities sounds new and unfamiliar to many, but many NECA contractors already have much of the training, skills and experience to go after and get these projects. Find out how you can move quickly and confidently into this exciting, fast growing market.

Speakers

  • Terry Coleman

    Mr. Coleman is instrumental in coordinating, for the electrical training ALLIANCE, the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program (EVITP) that occurs at the organization’s annual National Training Institute (NTI). He is also responsible for implementing and overseeing the lighting, lighting controls and Building Automation curriculum.

    Terry also plays a key role in the development of content for the electrical training ALLIANCE’s Learning Management System (LMS). Mr. Coleman is currently working on an industry-wide Energy Storage and Microgrid Training and Certification Program in concert with Penn State’s Gridstar Program and the Electric Power Research Institute’s (EPRI) Standard Task Evaluation (STE) certification process.

    Terry is also working on the development of training for electrical workers in emerging markets; Power over Ethernet (PoE), the Internet of Things (IoT), Smart Cities and the use of UAVs in electrical construction. Terry represents the electrical training ALLIANCE on both the IBEW’s and NECA’s Business Development teams and currently serves on the National Fire Protection Association’s NEC, Code Making Panel 16. He is a 39-year member of the IBEW and resides in East Tennessee with his family.

  • Kelly Waters

    Kelly Waters is Co-founder and Managing Director of Waters Group Global. Over the past several years Kelly has worked with a number of NECA chapters and LMCCs around the country to create and launch business development programs.

    Currently she’s working with the Central Ohio NECA Chapter and IBEW locals where she created and serves as the Director of their business development effort called Power Connect. One of Power Connect’s primary strategies for gaining market share is to support the work of economic and commercial development organizations throughout the Region. Kelly has over 25 years of experience as a Chief Executive in business development, technology commercialization, and business expansion.

    She is a frequent speaker on the topics of business growth and organizational development. She is the recipient of the American Marketing Association, Capital Region Chapter, Marketer of the Year award and the Albany Chamber of Commerce Woman of Excellence award. She was selected as a Woman of Influence by the Capital Region Business Review, a publication of American City Business Journals.

  • Bernie Kotlier

    Bernie Kotlier directs the development, promotion, and delivery of sustainable energy training for IBEW electricians, and business development programs for NECA electrical contractors in California and Nevada including energy auditing, energy efficiency, photovoltaics, zero net energy buildings, electric vehicles, energy storage, and micro-grids. Bernie has served on a number of advisory committees to the California Public Utilities Commission, and is currently co-chair of the California Advanced Lighting Controls Training Program, national co-chair of the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program / EVITP, co-founder of the Energy Storage and Microgrid Training and Certification Initiative, and a member of the boards of directors of the California Clean Energy Fund / CalCEF, CalCharge, and the National Alliance for Advanced Transportation Batteries / NAATBatt International.

  • Moderator: Jeremy Richmond

    Jeremy Richmond is the Smart Building Solutions Manager at MacDonald-Miller Facility Solutions. Jeremy has pioneered the Smart Building delivery at MacMiller and has integrated over 100M SqFt of Commercial Real Estate, Retail, Manufacturing and Production facilities. Jeremy has over 22 years of experience in operating, managing and improving commercial and government property and assets.  He is a Subject Matter Expert in the realm of HVAC Automations, Lighting Control Systems, Alarm Safety & Warning systems.
